Sunny
Sunny is a unique song, written by Bobby Hebb back in 1963. He wrote the song after President Kennedy was shot, and he said the event inspired him to write the song as a tribute to the nations’ loss. This guitar lesson demonstrates the song in the key of “Am”. The chords you will need are: Am7, Gm7, C7, Fmaj7, Bbmaj7, Bm7, E7, and Bm7b5. There is no chorus and no bridge that are found in most other songs; in that regard, Sunny is unique. But, you’ll find that the song flows smoothly in spite of not having the “standard” A, A, B, A configuration. The timing of the chords and the phrasing of the lyrics need special attention to create the wonderful “feel” of Sunny, but this guitar lesson addresses these areas, as well as the colorful chords in this tune.
