Believe it or not, the guitar dates back a few thousand years. The original instrument was called a chordophone. In fact, all stringed instruments, such as the lute, were descended from this early instrument. The modern acoustic guitar is the most popular instrument seen today, but it possesses all the same parts as its predecessors. There is a sound chamber, a neck, a set of strings, and a method of adjusting the pitch of the strings. The solid body, electric guitar came into being in the 1930’s. Once electronics were introduced, the method of sound production changed from vibrating strings to pick-ups and amplifiers.
